Spark UC, Collaboration for a Purpose, provided students the opportunity to solve a real world problem in their community while working with students of other colleges within UC. The 2015 Edition of Spark was titled “Mill Creek Alive.” This years event focused on the Mill Creek Watershed, a 166 mile basin on the west side of Cincinnati. In 1997, American Rivers named it the most endangered urban river in North America. During the event, students worked in teams of 5 to create 3-5 recreational areas along the mill creek watershed. Additionally, teams developed branding campaigns for each area; illustrating the impact and value the Watershed can bring to the region.
Spark UC took place on November 7th from 8am-6pm in Tangeman University Center. We saw 14 teams compete to determine the future of one of Cincinnati’s most prized waterways. We also hosted 10 Mentors from UC and surrounding communit Mentors helped teams by giving valuable expertise and insight. Each team’s project was judged by a member of the Mill Creek Executive Council; the 1st place project is featured below.
We hope you enjoyed the first annual Spark UC! The Innovation Initiative’s mission is to provide educational opportunities and networking engagements supported by consistent exposure to innovation practice.
